“I’ve waited on tables for the men who change lives / I remember their names, but they just forget mine /And I’ve sung for them before, and they’ll open up that door / If I’m more like this, more Taylor Swift with a throwback twist / It’d be perfect, but you need a hit / God, I hated it.”
“Good to Me” by Carrie Welling
Today’s Advent Calendar feature is Carrie Welling! An Americana Country artist, Carrie released her debut album, High Heels & Heavy Things on September 18, 2020.
A self-described “military brat,” Carrie often struggled to feel rooted amid her family’s travels. After much struggle, heartbreak, and soul-searching, she eventually emerged as an international touring artist with a home in Nashville, Tennessee. Through her latest album, Carrie has acknowledged the difficulties of learning to love herself while achieving her dreams.
One of the most notable tracks of High Heels & Heavy Things is “Good To Me,” in which Carrie tells her story. She “spent years being hard on myself because I thought I’d be in a different place at my age now. I was also sitting in a puddle of self worthlessness. I finally decided to write a song telling me to finally start being good to myself, love myself and know that I am exactly where I need to be.” Created in a home studio in Nashville with organic instruments, High Heels & Heavy Things was Carrie Welling’s labor of love.
