“She likes her sweets and wine / Her chips and her pie / But she never wears them on her shoulder / She’s a snappy little Irish lassie / Pretty as four leaf clover.”
“Annie, Sing Your Heart Out Anyway” by Madame Daley
Today’s Advent Calendar feature is Madame Daley! A self-proclaimed “vintage old hollywood, glam rock, disco ball, feathers and jewels matriarch,” it’s all about the “glitter, platform boots, and rock n’ roll” for Madison Daley, the brain behind the persona. Madame Daley grew from “Madison’s love for glamorous fashion and gritty rock n’ roll, her affinity for drag queens and broadway musicals, her nostalgia for the Daley family’s multi-generational history with the city of New York, her all out devotion to the music legends of the 20th century, and her never-ending appreciation for the power of women and femininity.”
With the goal of inspiring women and non-binary people to gain empowerment from femininity, the artist has been working in the New York City music scene since 2015, and officially made it her home in 2019 after graduating with a degree in Music Business from the University of Colorado Denver. With experience in theatre, writing music, working as a staff photographer, and creating film projects, Daley fits right into the New York scene.
Working with Plaid Dog Recording in Boston, Daley crowdfunded and recorded her debut single “Annie, Sing Your Heart Out Anyway” in early 2020. Daley wrote the song for her late grandmother, who she describes as a “badass broad born and raised in Brooklyn” who loved to sing—even if it wasn’t her strong suit. Madison Daley “loved that she sang despite it all.”
