New Jersey-based alternative rock band, Bobby Mahoney and the Seventh Son, ended 2018 with a splash! Their newest single, “Should Have Called You Up (Last Night)” was released on Telegraph Hill Records to top off a busy year and start 2019 right.

Following a March EP release in 2018 with four new songs and three live tracks as well as three re-recorded hits, the newest single is fresh and well-timed.

The pacing of “Should Have Called You Up (Last Night) is absolutely perfect. The soft beginning allows a gradual introduction for listeners to get into the groove of the song and truly appreciate the foundation each instrument provides before the vocals are added and the song builds. Although the song was mostly very relaxed and soft, it did build up to a climax that was the perfect intensity level.

“Should Have Called You Up (Last Night)” doesn’t contain a myriad of differing lyrics, which would usually make me dislike a song in most cases, but in this track, it worked very well. The lyrics were catchy— “Should have called you up! Should have called you up! Should have called you up last night!”— and memorable and delivered in such a way that made them even more so.

Bobby Mahoney and the Seventh Son’s latest track would be a great fit for fans of Sheppard, Coldplay, and U2.

Originally formed in 2010 by frontman and lead guitarist, Bobby Mahoney, the group now includes James McIntosh on drums, Jon Chang-Soon on bass, and Andrew Saul on guitar. Bobby Mahoney and the Seventh Son plans to tour and release a few more singles in the near future.
